Say Hello To The
Fred Frank House
An architect-designed residence in Starkville, Mississippi, reimagined by invited designers, guided by preservation principles.
Coming Late March 2026
About the Showhouse
The Fred Frank House Showhouse was developed as part of a Master of Fine Arts practicum in Historic Preservation at Mississippi State University, exploring how the showhouse model can serve as a tool for preservation, interpretation, and public engagement.
The project examines the role of design and storytelling in fostering appreciation for architect-designed homes and encouraging thoughtful stewardship.
Designed by architect Fred Frank, the house represents an important example of modern architecture in Mississippi. Developed in collaboration with the homeowners, Tommy and Charlyn King, MFA student Jennifer Burt, and design and trade professionals, the showhouse invites invited designers to interpret individual spaces within a preservation-led framework—balancing contemporary use with respect for the home’s architectural intent, materials, and setting.
This project is guided by research, collaboration, and community engagement, using design as a means to connect the public with architectural history while testing new models for preservation advocacy.
The House
Completed in 1983, the Fred Frank House is a modern, architect-designed residence that reflects the late-career work of architect Fred Frank, completed in the year of his death. The house is characterized by its strong geometric forms, careful siting, and a restrained material palette, hallmarks of modern design adapted to place and climate.
Its design prioritizes light, proportion, and spatial clarity, offering a compelling case study for the preservation of architect-designed modern homes as they reach an age where long-term stewardship becomes critical.
The Fred Frank House is currently undergoing renovation, with research and documentation continuing alongside the showhouse planning process. Following the showhouse, the property will be offered for sale in Spring 2026.
Interior Designers & Trade Participants
The Fred Frank House Showhouse brings together a curated group of invited designers and creative participants selected for their thoughtful, context-driven approach to design. Each participant is given the opportunity to interpret an individual room, allowing their work to be experienced within a cohesive, architecturally significant setting.
Participation offers designers meaningful public exposure, placing their work in front of an engaged audience of design enthusiasts, preservation advocates, and potential clients. The showhouse also provides an opportunity to showcase design range, craftsmanship, and point of view within a preservation-led framework. Select furnishings and decorative elements will be available for purchase, creating a direct connection between design, display, and audience interest.
Designer participation will be announced on a rolling basis.
